From Beyond Our Farm

There are a few teas we love at home that use ingredients we simply can’t grow in our Ontario climate. To bring those to you, we’ve partnered with small, high-quality makers whose products we enjoy ourselves. Each one is thoughtfully sourced and crafted with the same respect for ingredients that guides our own work in the fields.

Yerba maté occupies a unique place in the world of botanical beverages. Technically not a tea at all, it comes from a plant in the holly family — it is nonetheless a traditional beverage across many South American countries, prized for its high caffeine content. This organic version, sourced by our partners at Camellia Sinensis, is a particularly clean and thoughtfully produced example of the style.

The plants are integrated into the Brazilian native forest, and a biennial harvesting practice allows for a respectful yield that works with the plant's natural regeneration cycle.

Traditionally enjoyed from a gourd through a metal filtered straw (a bombilla), yerba maté is also well suited to a French press or teapot. Its leaves hold up to multiple re-infusions, making it a drink you can return to throughout the day — each steep a little lighter and smoother than the last.

Camellia Sinensis

Camellia Sinensis is one of North America's most respected specialty tea houses, founded in Montreal in 1998 by a core group of four professional tea tasters, each specializing in a different tea-growing region of Asia. Their business model is rooted in an ancient code of the tea trade — respect for the tea plant, for the growers and producers, and ultimately for the customer, ensuring each receives a fair price for a truly exceptional product. With 85–90% of their catalogue comprising single-origin, seasonally fresh teas hand-selected on-site and purchased directly from the producer, Camellia Sinensis brings a depth of sourcing integrity that makes them a natural fit as one of our trusted artisan partners.
