From Beyond Our Farm

There are a few teas we love at home that use ingredients we simply can’t grow in our Ontario climate. To bring those to you, we’ve partnered with small, high-quality makers whose products we enjoy ourselves. Each one is thoughtfully sourced and crafted with the same respect for ingredients that guides our own work in the fields.

For those looking for an introduction to Japanese green tea — or a reliable daily sencha to return to again and again — this is an exceptional choice. One of Camellia Sinensis' best sellers, it is produced by the Morishita brothers at the Isagawa tea farming cooperative in Shizuoka, and sets a high bar for what a highly drinkable, everyday Japanese green tea can be.

The leaves are dark and glossy, yielding a clear, light yellow liquor that is full and sweet, vegetal and zesty. Lively in taste and showcasing the intense herbal aromas expected from this tea family, it also boasts distinct fruity notes as its signature style, with a warm, nutty finish that rounds out its very complete profile.

The Isagawa cooperative owns several gardens in the Haruno-Isagawa area, with plantations nestled in the middle of cedar forests — all certified organic. It's the kind of tea that rewards both the curious newcomer and the seasoned green tea drinker.

Camellia Sinensis

Camellia Sinensis is one of North America's most respected specialty tea houses, founded in Montreal in 1998 by a core group of four professional tea tasters, each specializing in a different tea-growing region of Asia. Their business model is rooted in an ancient code of the tea trade — respect for the tea plant, for the growers and producers, and ultimately for the customer, ensuring each receives a fair price for a truly exceptional product. With 85–90% of their catalogue comprising single-origin, seasonally fresh teas hand-selected on-site and purchased directly from the producer, Camellia Sinensis brings a depth of sourcing integrity that makes them a natural fit as one of our trusted artisan partners.
